Obituaries: Callahan, Rettke

Ed Callahan

Ed Callahan, 64, of Bloomington died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends. He was a valiant warrior battling glioblastoma for the last 18 months.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Callahan was a graduate of St. James High School Chester, Pa. and Pennsylvania State University. He retired from the accounting and railroad industries.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Alice (Burke) Callahan and late brother Larry (Suelynn) Callahan.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Dolores, of 40 years; his daughters, Kara (Michael) Lorentson of Conshohocken PA and Katie (Mohamed) Abouelmagd of Bloomington; along with two granddaughters Laila and Talia. He is also survived by his sister Kathy (John) McNeely and Steve (Ann) Callahan both of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed his nieces, nephews and grand-nieces.

Arrangements entrusted to Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home with cremation rites accorded. A private service will be held at a later date.

Alice RettkeAlice Rettke

Alice K. Rettke, 67, of Bloomington, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at her home.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Father Byambaasa Rogers, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center Chaplain will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2017 at the funeral home. A private family graveside service is scheduled.

Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice.

Alice was born May 13, 1950 in Bloomington, the daughter of Delmar V. and Clara June Edgington Rettke.

She is survived by a daughter, Nichole “Nikki” (Gary) Welch of Clinton; a grandson, Clayton; two sisters, Margaret (Thomas) Wilson and Linda McDonald, both of Franklin Grove, IL; and a brother, Robert (Rhea) Rettke of Fort Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Elliot Rettke.

Alice graduated from Bloomington High School in 1969 and attended Holy Trinity Church. She worked at the Eureka Company for many years and retired from State Farm Insurance Companies.

Alice was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed vacationing in Florida. She especially enjoyed going to her grandson’s sporting events and never missed a game.
