Betty FrostBetty Frost

Betty Lou Frost, 87 of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at her home.

Betty’s service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Following the service burial will be held at Hopewell Cemetery, Downs. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty was born on Aug. 31, 1930 in McLean, Ill. She is the daughter of Mack and Pearl (Hazelwood) Phelps. She married James Frost on March 31, 1947 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1999.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Donald) Brooks, Bloomington; grandchildren, Derek Brooks and Dawn (Matthew) Voelker and her brother, Larry (Joyce) Phelps of Champaign.

She is preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and five sisters.

She retired from General Electric in 1990 after 35 years. She was a member of Local Union 1000, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose both of Bloomington. Betty enjoyed camping with her husband and friends and working on cars in her younger years. She loved entertaining family and friends at her home and she loved country music and going to concerts.

Betty loved not just her immediate family but her nieces and nephews were just as special to her. She will be deeply missed by all of them.

Jean KessingerJean Kessinger

Virginia Jean Kessinger, 78, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 8, 2018 at home with her family by her side.

Jean’s visitation will be held on April 13, 2018 from 10- 11 a.m., at Calvert Metzler Memorial Home with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Cremations rights have been accorded.

Jean was born on March 13, 1940, in Randolph, Ill. She is the daughter of Allen Carlin Jr. and Gladys Birdie Hazelwood.

She is survived by her four children; Tammi (Ferric “Blue”) Cail, Vernal (Julie) Kessinger Jr., Darren (Dana) Kessinger and Jeremy Kessinger all from the Bloomington/Normal area; the children’s father, Vernal D. Kessinger Sr.; 11 grandchildren; Richelle (Bricker) Matthews, Amber McWhorter, Kyle (Hannah) Kessinger, Brandon Kessinger, Travis (Jayme Johnson) Kessinger, Kaylee Kessinger, JP Bowling, Hannah Kessinger, Cassidy Kessinger, Zach Kessinger, Cameron Kessinger; five great-Grandchildren; Makizha Johnson, Rayzhiana (moomoo) Johnson, Raymond Johnson Jr., Dylan McWhorter and Weston Kessinger; one sister, Connie Land.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother; one daughter, Rhonda Kessinger; two grandsons, Phillip and Nathan Kessinger; grand-son-in-law Chris McWhorter.

Jean was a life long resident of Bloomington-Normal, attending Bent Elementary and Normal Community High School Class of 1958. She was a house wife for many years before joining Eureka Williams from 1970 -1984, when they closed. She then worked for Concord Cleaners from 1985 for over 20 years until her retirement. She developed many friendships throughout her life.

Jean was an avid collector of several knick knacks from pens, keychains, stamps and lighters, but the closest to her heart was the Angels she collected. She was proud of all her grandchildren and prided herself to take several photos of the many special occasions and sport activities they were involved in. Jean was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Kosair Children’s Hospital, 231 E. Chestnut Street, Louisville, Ky. 40202 & American Heart Association.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
