Donald F. Hahn, 68, of Crest Hill, Illinois and Venice, Florida, passed into
the Lord’s family on Wednesday, January 8 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The visitation for Don will be from 4-8 p.m. at Carmody-Flynn Funeral
Home, Bloomington, Illinois on Thursday, January 16. The Mass of
Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary’s Church in
Bloomington, with Fr. Greg Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Holy
Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma
Foundation or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Don was born August 19, 1951 to Mary Elizabeth Lannon and Maurice F.
Hahn in Rockford. He married Mary Cay Lammers on December 29, 1973.
She survives. Don is also survived by sons Mark (Kristin) and Greg (John
Romalis). He was the very special Abuelo (grandfather) to Nolan and
Marin. Don’s brothers and sisters are: Barb Miller, Joan (John) Gillette, Bill
(Gail) Hahn, Jane (Bill) Morgan, Cathy (Dan) Manning, and Mike (Debbie)
Hahn, and numerous inlaws, nieces, and nephews. Predeceasing Don
were his parents, his brother Rick Hahn, niece Emily Morgan, and nephew
Zack Lammers.
Don graduated from Illinois State University in 1973 and began his career
in education. He became a school principal in 1981 and then served as a
superintendent of schools in 1990. These job changes took Don and his
family around Central Illinois and they were able to make good friends in all
locations. Most recently, he served Ridgeview School District #19 for ten
years and then Olympia CUSD #16 for five years, at which point he retired.
Don was proud of his family and enjoyed getting together with all of them at
weddings and special family gatherings. Storytelling was always a part of
the family time. He and Mary Cay’s passion was travelling, so they spent
much of their retirement seeing new places and were able to visit all fifty
states. Venice, Florida was their winter home, and they felt honored to
have many friends and family there as well.
