Marion VaughanMarion Vaughan

Marion Frances Vaughan, 89, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9 at 9:10 a.m. at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

A service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Village. A light lunch will be served after the service. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marion was born July 12, 1927 in Stone, Kentucky. Her parents were Maxine and Lawrence K. Hearn. She married Raymond “Brick” Welcome Vaughan on September 20, 1947. Brick died on December 27, 2004.

She is survived by three daughters: Deborah Vaughan (Cory) Lathbury, Verona, Wisconsin, Susan Crumbaugh, Bloomington, and Robyn (Dave) Ashton, Newport Beach, Calif.
Marion had six grandchildren: Alex Lehmann, Madison, Wisc., Ryan (Molly) Lehmann, St. Michael, Minnesota, Andrew (Gina) Crumbaugh, Sibley, Ill., Amy Crumbaugh, Bloomington and Bryce and Bailey Ashton, Newport Beach, California. She also had seven great grandchildren: Jonah Frisch, Harper, Finley, Emerson and Lennon Lehmann, and Johnathon and Bradley Fields. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters: Louise (Len) Tucker, Austin Texas, and Pat (Bob) Gregory, Norris, Tennessee, as well as her brother Karl (Mary) Hearn, Fairfield, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond W. (Brick), her parents, and a sister Carolyn (Tom) Wiley, Arlington, Tex.

Marion was a member of Chapter HP, P.E.O., History Club, Historical Society, a lifetime member of BroMenn Auxillary, and a former board member of the Y.W.C.A. and Bloomington Day Care. She was a 50-year member of Bloomington Country Club where she was five-time Women’s Golf Champion, and a 3rd flight champion in the 1979 I.W.G.A. State Tournament. Marion was thrilled to have three holes-in-one in her lifetime.

Marion was an avid golfer and loved tennis, travel, bridge, music, photography, and antiques.

She had some unique hobbies over the years including digging for antique bottles and antiquing in every city she visited. She loved to entertain friends and took great pleasure in planning parties. Most of all she loved her family and her many longtime and loyal friends. Brick and Marion loved their trips to Europe, Hawaii and Mexico, and two family Caribbean cruises. They had a wonderful life together.

Although Marion suffered the effects of Parkinson’s in the final years of her life, she met each challenge with dignity and grace. She treated all those around her with love and respect and greatly appreciated the loving care she received at Martin Health Center. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Ann Kathryn Roop, 69, Normal, IL, died 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at her residence.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Rev. Kim Burke, Ann’s niece officiating. Burial will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery, rural Bloomington. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial home.

Memorials may be made to family and children’s ministries of Second Presbyterian Church, Bloomington or First United Methodist Church, Normal.

Ann was born June 1, 1947 in Bloomington, a daughter of Dick and June Cruikshank Hallam. She married Danny Schmidt on May 21, 1966. He died on October 4, 1970. She later married Ronald Roop on April 7, 1972 in Bloomington. He died July 2, 2009.

Surviving is a son, Cory (Jenny) Roop, Hudson, four grandchildren, Alexandria, Maddison, Jordyn and Parker Roop, all of Hudson, two sisters, Jan Kwasigroh, Hudson, IL and Cynthia Bach, Memphis, TN, two step-sisters, Deb (Denny) Deterding, Bloomington and Sharon (Steve) Dambold, Normal, two step-brothers, Mark and Trent March, both in Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ann was a member of Second Presbyterian Church Bloomington where she was an active member in children’s ministries, having taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She was also a Bible Study Fellowship children’s leader for five years, a member of the Hallmark Ornament Club and an avid ISU Redbird basketball fan.

Ann worked in clerical services at State Farm Insurance Co., Bloomington for over 30 years, retiring in 2002.

Santa MinkSanta Mink

Santa Mink, 90, of Bloomington, passed away at 6:58 a.m., Dec. 19 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.

A private family burial will take place in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.  Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Santa was born Nov. 1, 1926 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Manuel and Consepsion De La Rosa Cordero.  She married Raymond Mink on Nov. 22, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was stationed in the Navy.  He preceded her in death in 1994 at the age of 69, along with many brothers and sisters and a great grandchild, Bodie J. Bauer.

She is survived by three children, Michael (Mary) Mink, Suzy (Terry) Newman, Niki (Bruce) Bauer; grandchildren, Mike (Luci) Mink, Matt (Sharon) Mink, Michelle (Jessie) Oesch, Todd (Diane) Newman, Tammy (Andrew) Pellicer, Derek (Val) Bauer, Michelle (Kato) Lasley; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Santa and Ray moved to Florida in 1977 where they loved to fish and play golf.  She had three holes-in-one playing golf, was a member of VFW for 56 years and loved to play bingo.  She also worked at the family owned Mink’s Model Raceway.

Corinne J. Stevenson, 66 of Armington, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11:35 p.m. in Bloomington with her family by her side. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Corinne was born on March 8, 1950 in Lawrence, Massachusetts the daughter of Helen Coolidge. She married James Stevenson on December 21, 1985 in Bloomington.

She is survived by her husband Jim their children; Tricia (Josh) Lipscomb of Bloomington, Martin (Marta) Stevenson of Normal, Kathy (Donald) Smith-Myles of Aurora, IL, Stacy (Alfredo) Reyes of Bloomington, Tonya Stevenson of Bloomington, Timothy (Stacy) Stevenson of Bloomington, Jim (Amy) Smith of Minier and John Smith of Bloomington. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren along with 5 brothers and sisters.

She was preceded by her mother and 1 granddaughter.

She is of the Christian Faith and she loved taking walks.

Corrine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.

William E. Ruch Sr.

William E. Ruch Sr., 85 of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 5:00pm at his home.

Christopher Mark Sleeter, 56 of Normal, Illinois passed away on Dec. 22 at 2:01 p.m. at home following a brief illness.

Chris was born on Nov. 12, 1960 in Bloomington, the son of Eugene Townsend Sleeter and Janice Elaine (Hayes) Sleeter.

He is survived by his mother; Janice Sleeter of Normal, three brothers; Lance

(Laurie) Sleeter of Lexington, Hans Sleeter of Bloomington and Paul (Angela) Sleeter of Normal along with his nephews and nieces; Bo (Maria) Sleeter, David (Sarah Sadler) Sleeter and Lucy and Kate Fortner.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Chris graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1980 and attended Illinois State University. He served in the National Guard and was deployed to Korea with the 1st Battalion 123 infantry. Chris enjoyed fishing, cooking and reading.

JoAnne E. Myers, 91, Fairbury, died at 8:55 am Monday, December 26, 2016 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with Pastor Ann Champion officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30 to 10:15 am Friday at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury; Fairview Haven Serenity Villa Memory Support Unit, Fairbury or a charity of the donor’s choice.

JoAnne was born November 2, 1925 in Fairbury the daughter of Phillip and Gladys Meeker Thompson. She married George S. Myers on March 14, 1948 in Fairbury. He died on July 3, 2014.

Surviving are three children, Georgia (Clark) Wilkinson, Camargo; Greg (Sue) Myers and Jeff Myers, both of Fairbury. Five grandchildren, Amber (Tony) Stenger, Groveland; Derek (Annie) Wilkinson, Naperville; Nathan (Kristy) Myers, Terre Haute, IN; Jason (Jen) Myers, Cary; and Ryan (Tiffany) Myers, Fairbury. Seven great grandsons, Sean Stenger, Nicholas and Michael Wilkinson, Holden, Cavinder, Lincoln and Owen Myers. One sister, Phyllis Runyon, Fairbury.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Thompson, and sister, Marilyn Rice.

JoAnne graduated from Fairbury-Cropsey High School in 1944. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper in Fairbury before her marriage. She and George farmed south of Fairbury for many years. She belonged to the Charity Home Rebekah IOOF Lodge #112 where she held several positions, and was involved in numerous other organizations.

JoAnne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury and United Methodist Women. She loved the Chicago Cubs and attending local sports events. JoAnne loved her family dearly and always looked forward to birthday and holiday celebrations.

The family is very grateful for the care JoAnne received from the staff at Fairview Haven Retirement Community.

Ellen “Kay” Fred

Ellen “Kay” Fred, 69, of Pontiac, IL passed away at 7:22 am on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at her home in Pontiac.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac. According to the family’s wishes, cremation rites will follow visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Kay was born September 4, 1947 in Pontiac, IL a daughter of Burdette Orlo and Ellen Jo (Wolter) Skipton. She married Eugene Earl Fred on September 9, 1981 in Pontiac, IL. He passed away on May 31, 2008.

She is survived by her children: Jeff Lewis (Cris Cool), Shelley Lewis-Barton, Angela (Michael) Huffman, and Daniel Fred all of Pontiac, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Alisha Lewis (Josh Bryant), Alexis Lewis, Brandon and Brock Barton, Jesse, Nathan, and Alison Huffman, Devin and Calvin Fred; and two great grandchildren: Khloe and Kylee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Kay was raised and educated in the Odell area. She worked for Coils Inc. in Dwight for 17 years and then she worked at Mosaic until she retired in 2013. Kay especially enjoyed her time spent there helping others.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Kay was an avid TV watcher and wordsearch player.

Kay was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma and friend who will be greatly missed.

Verla L. Tauber, 101, of Chatsworth, Ill. passed away at 6:30 pm on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at Piper City Rehab and Living Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth with Father Richard Brunskill officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Kouts, IN at 4:00 pm on Thursday afternoon. Memorial contributions in Verla’s name may be made to H.O.P.E. Church, Futures Unlimited, or Chatsworth Fire and EMS. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Chatsworth is handling arrangements for the family.

She is survived by her daughter: Kay (Mark) Grizzle of Chatsworth, IL; one son: Samuel (Bobbi) Tauber of Greeley, CO; two grandchildren: Heather Grizzle and Nicole (Mike) Scott; three great grandchildren.

Dagan Lucas McCoy, 2, Fairbury, died at 8:39 am Sunday, January 1, 2017 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hoekstra officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be 11:00 to 12:45 pm Saturday also at the memorial home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois, Peoria.

Dagan was born September 26, 2014 in Peoria, IL the son of Joshua Milligan and Morgan McCoy.

Surviving is his mother, Morgan, Fairbury; father, Joshua, Danville; sister, Destiny McCoy, at home in Fairbury; maternal grandmother, Beverly (Richard) Meskimen, Fairbury; maternal grandfather, Mark (Jeannie) McCoy, Georgia; maternal great grandparents, Rev. Dr. Charles and Judy Hoekstra, Bethalto, IL; step maternal great grandparents, Robert and Darlene Meskimen, Pekin.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Gerald and Janice McCoy.

John Stepro

John Stepro

John W. Stepro, 98 of rural Pontiac, passed away at 7:20am, Tuesday, January 3, 2017at his residence in rural Pontiac.

Funeral services will be 1 pm, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. Cremation rites will be accorded at the conclusion of the service with a family graveside inurnment to be held at a later date.

Visitation will be 11am to 12:45pm, prior to his service on Saturday also at the funeral home in Chenoa. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Livingston County OSF Hospice

Mr. Stepro was born October 29, 1918 in Eureka, KY; the son of Charles and Minnie (Mallory) Stepro.  He married Wanda Jones on April 20, 1946 in Owensboro, KY.  Wanda, his wife for over seventy years, survives in rural Pontiac.

Also surviving are three children, Darwin “Buck” Stepro of Chenoa; Carolyn “Kasey” Stepro and Paula Fry both of Pontiac; 21grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, one son, Leon Stepro, 1 grandchild and 1 great-great grandchild.

John loved the outdoors, as a lifelong farmer, he enjoyed any activity that he could be outside.  He never knew a stranger and had a spirit that genuinely loved people.  Above all he loved his family and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Frank Stafford Rudisill Jr., 90 of Bloomington, passed away on Jan. 3 at 9:50 a.m. at Martin Health Care Center, Bloomington.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11am at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington with Rev. Brent Salm officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Village, 2025 E. Lincoln St., Bloomington, Ill. 61701.

Frank is survived by his three children; Michael (Gail) Rudisill, Marquette, Miss., David (Rusty) Rudisill, Clinton and Richard Rudisill, McDonough, Ga.

Also surviving are two Grandchildren, five Step Grandchildren, 11 Step Great Grandchildren and his sisters; Helen Friedman of Normal, and Muriel Winterland of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Frank served in the US Army during WWII from 1945-1947. He worked in the Grain Elevators at Pierson Station for two years, Hudson for four years, Weldon for 15 years and Stanford Grain Company for 15 years as a General Manager retiring in 1993.

James Franklin

Pontiac – James J. Franklin, 73, of Pontiac, Ill. passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac with Rev. James O. Wolfe III officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services on Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Pontiac, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pontiac VFW.

James was born Jan. 10, 1943 in Rockford, Illinois a son of Edwin S. and Elles S. (Close) Franklin. He attended the Pontiac schools, graduating in 1961 from Pontiac Township High School. He then served our country in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. He was an ASW Air crewman (E3) in P3 Orion patrol planes. He was honorably discharged. He continued to serve when he returned through the Pontiac VFW for many years, namely District 7 Commander for two years and the Pontiac American Legion.

He came back to Pontiac after his service and worked at Motorola-Pontiac in quality control until it closed. At that point he went to Seibert, Inc. in Chenoa, IL as a machinist for twenty-four years, retiring in 2002.

James married C. Joy Hendershot on January 8, 1993. They spent thirty wonderful years together. She passed away on December 13, 2012.

He is survived by his son: James J. “Joe” (Kim) Franklin of Evans, GA and his two children: Paul and Victor Franklin; his mother: Ellen Fitzgerald of Pontiac, IL; one half-brother: Richard Soule of Graymont, IL; one half-sister: Kathy Kelly of Pontiac, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and father.

James was a detail-oriented guy who was a great father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.

Bonnie Marie Griffin, 94 of Mesa, Arizona formerly of Bloomington passed away Wednesday January 4, 2017 at 12:14 PM at Brookdale Senior Living in Mesa.

There will be a graveside service for Bonnie on Wednesday January 11, 2017 at 11 AM at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.  Pastor Jason Collins will officiate.  Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.

Bonnie was born July 8, 1922 in Franklin, IL to Jesse and Theresa Whitcomb Higginbotham.  She married Robert P. Griffin in Bloomington.  He preceded her in death on July 29, 1972.

She is survived by her three children, Robert D. (Carmen) Griffin of Mesa, Diana Holbrooks of Dahlonega, GA, and Gary (Socorro) Griffin of Anaheim Hills, CA, as well as six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and one grandson Robert Griffin.

Bonnie worked many years as a waitress.  She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed bowling, skiing, and backpacking.  She and her husband Robert met while roller skating.

Myla was born August 11, 1922, in Colfax, the daughter of Charles and Sena Hadaway Brandt.

She married Beryl E. Harris on October 21, 1945 in Colfax. He passed away on December 12, 2001.

Surviving are her children, Dennis (Linda) Harris of Decatur, Stephen (Terri) Harris of Bloomington, John (Cindy) Harris of Colfax, Marla (Stu) Grant of Mt. Myla was the Dietary Manager for Octavia Manor, Colfax for 38 years. She also farmed alongside her husband in the Colfax area.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Colfax.

Maria CortezMaria Cortez

Maria Guadalupe Garcia Cortez, 85, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:55 a.m., Jan. 8 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, Bloomington with Rev. Gregory Nelson officiating.  Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Maria was born Dec. 1, 1931 in Mexico, the daughter of Urbano Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Cortez.  She married Pedro Haro and he preceded her in death in 1968.

Survivors include nine children, Bartola (Antonio) De La Cruz, Aurelio (Carlota) Haro, Josefina (Jose)  Verduzco, Maria Talamantes, Andres (Isabel) Haro, Felipe (Chavela) Haro, Maria D. (Amador) Castaneda, Alicia (Antonio) Aguilar and Salvador Haro; 34 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and a sister, Maria  Dolores Garcia.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria De La Cruz Haro; nine siblings, Rodrigo Garcia, Alberto Garcia, Pancho Garcia, Lupe Garcia, Nacho Garcia, Lucita Garcia, Cuca Garcia, Cuca Garcia and Serafin Garcia.

Maria was a loving mother and grandmother and dearly loved all her family.

Gertrude Ellen Chamings, 103, Colfax, died at 8:39 a.m. Jan. 6 at Aperion Care Center, Colfax.

A public memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Colfax Christian Church with Pastor Patty Meyer officiating.   Private inurnment will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.  The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Chamings was born Dec. 13, 1913 in Colfax the daughter of Ernest T. and Mabel Statler Hyatt.  She married Ralph E. “Nick” Chamings on Sep. 19, 1935 in Chicago.  He precedes her in death.

Surviving is one daughter, Karen (James) Davis Jr., Atlanta, Georgia, one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Chamings, Radcliff, Ky., five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Thomas, one grandson, Don, and five brothers.

Bonnie FellersBonnie Fellers

Bonnie Lou Fellers, 69, of Coal City, formerly of Cornell, Ill. passed away on Jan. 8 at Morris Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home with Dan Leonard officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rural Pontiac on Thursday. Following the burial, all are welcome for a time of food and fellowship at Cornell Fire Station, 406 West Main Street, Cornell, Ill. 61319. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Bonnie was born Jan. 30, 1947 at her home in Cornell a daughter of Clifford Charles and Doris Mae (Gray) Cashmer. She married C. Dean Fellers in 1963. They divorced in 1989. He survives.

Also surviving are her children: Jeff Fellers of Cornell, Penny (Mark) Wills of Coal City, and Brenda Fellers of Pontiac, Illinois; her grandchildren: Jeffery J. Fellers, Emmy Lou and Trevor J. McIntire, Crystal and Ashley Wills, Kelly and Teddy Deal, Katie Wills, and Dekota, Ransom, and Blade Fellers; her siblings: Mildred Dunning and Dannie (Katie) Cashmer; two sister-in-laws: Jane Cashmer (late Clifford, Jr.’s) and Diana Cashmer (late Chuck’s); her beloved poodle: Haley. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Clifford Charles Cashmer, Jr.; her twin-sister: Connie Sue (Clifford) Hinshaw; and Charles “Chuck” Cashmer.

She worked as the head cook of the Cornell Grade School for 27 years until her retirement.

Bonnie loved playing bingo, watching the Wheel of Fortune, and the color purple. Most of all, she loved her children and spending time with her grandchildren, they were her world.

She was active in the Cornell Fire Department and Bonnie was a member of Top Ten Club in Cornell.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Larimer; one sister, Mary Jean Glenn and sister-in-law,Sarah Elizabeth Glass.

Lois farmed with her husband in Coldbrook Township, Cameron.  Lois established a lovely home where she entertained family, friends, and guests with warmth and hospitality. She was an excellent cook, well known for her pies. She welcomed grandchildren with her freshly made spritz, toffee, and divinity. Her grandchildren (and many of their friends) affectionately called her “Gramsy”, and each shared a special bond of love and friendship with her. She always showed special interest and concern about the lives of her family and was respected and loved by all. Lois had a deep faith in God, her family, and the importance of having your hair done. She will be deeply missed.

Carol R. (Kingdon) Koerner, 83 of Cullom, died Jan. 8 at 5:17 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cullom with Rev. Carol was born on April 1, 1933 in Pontiac, a daughter of Erve and Gertrude A. (Schmidt) Kingdon.  She married Duane “Dewey” Koerner on Nov. 28 in Cullom. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2005.  Surviving is one daughter: Catherine Koerner of Morton. and one son: Michael Koerner of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandsons: Graham Goenne and Ethan Goenne; one sister: Marian Kerrins of Cullom. Carol was preceded in death by one brother: Paul Kingdon and one sister: Dorothy Kingdon Adamson.

Carol was educated in Cullom schools and was a homemaker.  She was partner in Koerner Construction in Cullom, IL. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Cullom.

William SkinkerWilliam Skinker

William Garrett Skinker, 93, of Bloomington, formerly of Springfield, died Jan. 7 at Martin Health Center in Bloomington.

His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m.,Saturday at Carmody Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.  Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Springfield.Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, and for one hour prior to the service Saturday, both at the funeral home.

Bill was born Nov. 6, 1923 in Springfield, Missouri to Cornelius H. and Genevieve (Garrett) Skinker.  Bill moved with his family to suburban St Louis at the age of two and graduated in 1942 from University City High School.  During his teens and early adulthood he was an accomplished ham radio operator, making contacts worldwide.

Bill enlisted in the Navyand served in World War II as a communications (radio) repair specialist on the Aircraft Carrier Independence, part of the Pacific fleet.  After the war, he returned to St Louis and enrolled in Washington University, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 1949.  While still a student he took a job in the university’s payroll office, and continued in this capacity after graduation.

Bill was called again to serve during the Korean Conflict, this time teaching radio repair at Great Lakes Naval Training Center north of Chicago.  While serving in this capacity he met Mary Parks Bugg and they were married Aug. 28, 1954.  Following release from the Navy, he began working in the insurance industry, first in Chicago and later in Springfield, Illinois.   Eventually he became an independent insurance agent, as owner of Skinker Insurance Agency for nearly 30 years. Throughout his years in Springfield he was active in First United Methodist Church boards, and with Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems.  Bill was also a pioneer in support of electric vehicles, and was the first resident in Springfield to own one in the mid 1970’s. After retirement Bill moved to Bloomington where he was a long-time resident of Westminster Village, serving on the Resident Council (as President for two years) and the Foundation Board.    He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Parks in 1994, parents, brother Jim, and sister-in law Suzanne Skinker.  Surviving are children Steve Skinker (Bethel) of Lansing, Michigan, Carolyn Skinker Wetzel (Glen) of Bloomington, along with four grandchildren: Kevin Skinker of the Philippines, Stacie Skinker of Grand Rapids, Mich., Calvin Wetzel (fiancée Maria Constantine)of Rochester, N.Y., and Quentin Wetzel of Bloomington.

Jean A. McCune, 79 of Bloomington, passed away on Jan. 9 at 2:40am at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Jean was born on Feb. 15, 1937 in Bayonne, New Jersey, the daughter of Walter and Julia Karasiewicz Mularz. She married David McCune in 1960 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. He preceded her in death in 1980.

She is survived by her children; Mathew McCune of Idaho, Mary Parker of Bloomington and Thomas (JoAnn) McCune of Boise, Idaho, grandchildren; Michael Punke of Bloomington, Michelle (David) Miller of Little Elm, Texas and Andrew Parker of Chicago and great grandchildren; Payton and Grace. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters; Mitchel Mularz, Walt (Cynthia) Mularz, Joseph (Nancy) Mularz, Helen (Steve) Duda and Julia (Joseph) Holden.

Jean was a member of St. Patrick’s Church of Merna, Bloomington. She worked and retired from Schnuks Grocery Store in Bloomington. Jean enjoyed crocheting and crocheted Prayer Shawls for the church to hand out to people in need. She also liked to travel when she could and volunteer at the church and she dearly loved animals.

Lorraine was born April 27, 1926 in Gillespie, the daughter of James and Mamie Pianfetti Sandretto.  She married Joseph Davies, Jr. on July 26, 1947 in Gillespie.  He preceded her in death on June 4, 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephane Elise (David) Booth of Stow, Ohio; a brother, James (Rosalie) Sandretto of Gillespie; five nieces and nephews, Joan Libra and Brett Sandretto, both of Gillespie,  Becky (Jon) Frieda of St. Louis, Gayle Lanter of Huntsville, Ala. and Terry (Sandra) Lanter of Alabaster, Ala.; six great nieces and two great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Virginia Lanter.

Lorraine was a distribution secretary for Library Book Selection Service for many years.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington and was very active in the St. Mary’s Mother’s Club.  She volunteered for Heritage Manor in Bloomington and was a great cat lover.

Lee was born April 11, 1925 in rural Lexington, the son of John and Eileen Shanks Doyle. He married Mary Lou Harris on June 26, 1954 in Bloomington.  She preceded him in death on May 11, 2000.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Smith, a brother, Jack Doyle and a sister-in-law, Suzanne Ensenberger, all of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Timothy Doyle, a brother, Roger Doyle and a son-in-law, John Smith.

Lee graduated from Ellsworth High School and served in the US Army during WWII from 1944-1945.  He worked at State Farm Insurance Co’s for forty years in both Bloomington and Birmingham, Ala.

Lee was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fr. John D. Ring Knights of Columbus Council 574, the Bloomington Elks and St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Lee was a 25 year volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and in 2006 was awarded the Pere Marquette Award from the Catholic Diocese of Peoria for his dedication and service.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and administration at Martin Health Center as well as OSF Hospice for their care.

David KinsellaDavid Kinsella

David J. Kinsella, 70, of Merna, passed away at 9:09 p.m., Jan. 12 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

David was born Aug. 18, 1946 in Bloomington, the son of Daniel J. and Lucille Buck Kinsella.  He married Patricia “Trish” Larkin on Jan. 4, 1969 in Merna. She survives.

He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara (Michael) Schmidt of Normal and Rebecca (Phillip) Pollacci of Scottsdale, Ariz. and a brother, Dennis (Kay) Kinsella of Creston, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David graduated from Trinity High School in 1964 and from Joliet Junior College in 1966.  He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and later joined the Army Reserves.  David worked for FS before returning to the family farm and eventually retiring in 2010.  He served on the McLean County Zoning Board of Appeals.

David was loved by many and will be missed by many.

Grace was born on Aug. 22, 1922 in Livingston County, a daughter of Roy Nelson and Nina Mae (Hahn) Howland.  She married Charles William Schieler in 1942.  He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1976.  Survivors include: one son: Charles William (Beverly) Schieler Jr. of Chenoa and one daughter: Carol (Kerry) Foster of Pontiac; seven grandchildren: Jeff (Pam) Foster, Jay (Jill) Foster, Jodie DeBartoli, Jackie Huxtable, Brian (Wendy) Schieler, Chris (Karen) Schieler and Joe (Brandy) Foster; seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren including Memory Grace Toppel, who was named after her; one brother: William Howland of Gardner.  Grace was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Grace was a 1940 graduate of Joliet Township High School.  She had been employed as a secretary for several offices in Pontiac; Ada Fabricator, Evenglow Lodge, was a matron for Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and her last employment was at Mid Central Community Action in Pontiac for six years.  Grace was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Pontiac.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Luella M. Stephens, 92, Fairbury and formerly of Forrest, died at 3:55 a.m. Jan. 17 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Luella was born Jan. 16, 1925 in Forrest the daughter of Carl and Elsie Wenger Waibel.  She married Raymond Shelby Stephens on March 10, 1945 in Peoria.  He died on April 2, 2007.

Family was very important to Luella and she is survived by her children, Linda (Bill) Johnston, Bloomington, Duane (JeriNell) Stephens, Lees Summit, Mo., Dennis (Pam) Stephens and Lori (Chuck) Power, both of Fairbury, one daughter-in-law, Suzi Stephens, Bloomington, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, three brothers, Glen Waibel, Forrest, Gene (Sandy) Waibel, Morton, Eldon (Marge) Waibel, Fairbury, two sisters, Ethel (David) Wiegand, Urbana, Carol (James) Arden, Reno, Nev.

She is preceded in death by one son, James, one grandson, Justin and one brother, Harry Waibel.

Luella was the valedictorian of the Forrest High School graduating class of 1943.  She was a homemaker and had been employed at Walton’s Department Store, Fairbury for several years.

Robert Lee “Bob” Robertson, 79 of Normal, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Jan. 18 at 1:39 p.m. at Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Chenoa.

Bob was born on Dec. 20, 1937 the son of Lloyd and Mamye Schwartzendruber Robertson. He married Sally Lager on Dec. 11, 1963 in Morris.

He is survived by his wife Sally of Normal, his children; Candy (Tony) George; Racine, Wisc. Karma (Tom) Britson; Hendersonville, Tenn., Bobbi Jane (Steve) Nelson; Racine, Wisconsin Roxanne (Rick) Albright; Waterloo, Iowa, Lisa (Ruben) Martinez-Sanchez; Normal Robert Lee (Nicole) Robertson II; Arlington, Texas, Kenneth (Rae Anne) Robertson; Bloomington, 14 grandchildren,

Bob served in the US Army, he was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church of Normal and the Normal Knights of Columbus. He was a self-taught Scales Technician who strived and accomplished to be the best in his profession.

After his retirement in the scales business at the age of 65 he started a new job working for the State at the Carlock Truck Weigh Station and worked another 10 more years finally retiring at the age of 75.

He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be truly missed by all of them.

Marilyn M. Petry, 88, of Heyworth, went to be with Jesus at 2:43 a.m., Jan. 22 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Her memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Ken Martin officiating.   A private family interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Full Gospel Tabernacle in Heyworth.

Marilyn was born May 20, 1928 in Chicago, the daughter of Marion and Ethel Hantz Conn.  She married Paul M. Petry on April 26, 1952 in Chicago and for 65 years, they shared a marriage that was “made in Heaven.”  He survives her.

Also surviving are her children, Paul S. (Barbara) Petry of Plano, Susan (Robert) Slusarek of Plainfield, Sharon Smith of Winnebago, Mark (Charlotte) Petry of Plainfield and Janet (Ken) Martin of Bloomington; seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Don Conn.

Marilyn had a deep love of the Lord and was a true Proverbs 31 woman.  To her family and others who knew her she was the most self-sacrificing, kind, considerate and generous person.

Marilyn was a phenomenal wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
