NORMAL – Howard Glen Frink, 93, of Normal, has reached his final address. We imagine he was walking with no pain down the streets of Heaven at 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
Howard’s service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at East White Oak Bible Church, with Pastor Scott Boerckel officiating. Entombment will be held at East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington with military honors conducted by the Bloomington/Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Howard’s story began on January 14, 1925 when he was born in a house on Main Street in Normal. He met his future wife, Melba Jean Zehr, in high school, and they began dating. Then Pearl Harbor happened, and when he graduated high school, he was drafted into the Army. He served in the 2nd Aircraft Repair Unit (Floating) with the 20th Air Force at Saipan and Iwo Jima. Howard was one of two communications officers to relay the Japanese surrender message through Morse Code to the U.S. After returning from WWII, he married Melba Jean on June 15, 1947 in Normal. They were blessed with two daughters, Deb (John) Foster, Bloomington and Cheryl (Bill) Matzker, O’Fallon, four grandchildren, Jenny (Erik) Klouse, Katie (Josh) Yates, Mark (Jaclyn) Matzker and David Matzker and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Howard was a graduate of Illinois State University and went to work at State Farm Insurance Company. He retired in 1990 after 39+ years. He was a longstanding member of East White Oak Bible Church, serving in many areas as a Board Chairman, Missions Treasurer and Chairman, Choir, Sunday School Teacher and was considered as one of the church historians. He also served on the BroMenn Board of delegates and steering committee of the Half Century Club at Illinois State University. He was also a member of the CPCU Society where he was past chapter president.
Howard loved traveling and traveled extensively stateside and abroad often visiting missionaries. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
His family was thankful to be able to care for him at home his last few days. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Samuel Steffen, Advocate BroMenn Hospice and nurse Ed Boyer, and the prayers of many friends.

Reverend David A. Ulseth, 79, of Bloomington, IL went to be with his Lord at 8:45 a.m. on September 13, 2018 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Normal.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at New Life Fellowship Church, 4754 E. 1400 North Road in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2018 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Interment will be in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo.
David was born in Crookston, Minn. to Melvin A. and Jeanette L. Ulseth.
At two years of age the family moved to Tacoma, Wash. where David grew up, the eldest of three children. He could see Mt. Rainier out his kitchen window. He lovingly called it, “his mountain”.
After graduating from Lincoln High School, David attended Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Mo. where he met and married Sharon Greve on August 6, 1960. They had two children – a son, Mark, and a daughter, Jan.
David was passionate about his calling of being a pastor and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving as an ordained minister for close to 60 years. He began his ministry in Spirit Lake and Webster City, Iowa. He then ministered in Melrose Park, Ill. for 29 years, and Rock Island, Illinois for 12 years. He also served as a presbyter for the Illinois District of the Assemblies of God for many years as well as serving on numerous committees and boards.
David and Sharon loved to travel and took many missions trips around the world. They visited all 50 states and over 30 countries on six continents.
David also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and fixing things around the house.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Ulseth of Normal; a son, Mark (Debbie) Ulseth of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Luke & Caleb Ulseth of Bloomington; a sister, Marlene D’Angelo of East Meadow, N.Y. and a brother, Gary (Dee) Ulseth of University Place, Wash.
David was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Ulseth and a brother-in-law, Steve D’Angelo.

Mary Lou was born September 9, 1940 in Forrest the daughter of Edward and Mildred Ann (Barnard) Garrels. She married Harold Hinds on September 28, 1958 in Forrest. He passed away on April 20, 1996. Her parents, three brothers, two sons, Kenny and Richard Hinds and one granddaughter, Nicole Tatum also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra (Jorge) Hernandez-Klaman of Phoenix, Ariz.; Candy (Keith) Slagel of Fairbury and; one sister, Darlene Leslie of Forrest; special friend, Steve Edwards of Forrest; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

BLOOMINGTON – Mary V. Rausch, 99, of Bloomington, formerly of Springfield, died peacefully at 2:22 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington with Rev. Greg Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
Mary was born August 23, 1919 in Moberly, Missouri, to Stephen and Emanuella Willer Lynch. She married J. Glenn Rausch on April 21, 1948 in Moberly, Missouri. They were married almost 52 years. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Patrick (Kim) Rausch, New Paltz, N.Y.; two daughters, Glenda (Guy) Crimaldi, Chicago and Susan (Joe McCarthy) Rausch, Bloomington; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
During World War II she was employed by Montgomery Wards in Kansas City, MO at their home office doing financial book keeping. After marriage she was a homemaker until she became manager of The Book Emporium in Springfield.
Mary was a great mentor to all who worked with her. She was a caring mother and grandmother surrounding her family with much love which included homemade baked goods and fantastic dinners. She knew how to nourish a hungry soul not only through her cooking but by her attention and love.
Mary will be missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends.
FAIRBURY – Richard W. Friedman, 82, Fairbury, died at 11:12 am Sunday, September 23, 2018 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. His graveside service will be 2 pm Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Avoca Twp. Cemetery, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts. The family suggests memorials be given to the Fairbury Sportsman’s Club.
Mr. Friedman was born June 3, 1936 in Chatsworth, the son of Tony and Olive Bachtold Friedman. He married Sandra Grieder on March 7, 1960 in Dixon. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include a son, Kevin Friedman, Fairbury, a daughter, Krista Friedman, Bloomington, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Bertha Sharp, Chatsworth, Hazel Johnson, Fairbury, four brothers, John Friedman, Piper City, Henry (Marjorie) Friedman, Fairbury, Alvin (Doris) Friedman, Florida, and Glen (Carol) Friedman, Waco, Tex.
He is preceded in death by a son, Klint Friedman, four brothers and one sister.
Mr. Friedman was a 1954 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He served in the US Army and later in the Army Reserves (1957-1963). He worked as a meat cutter at the Pontiac Correctional Facility for 22 years. After retirement Richard continued to process deer during hunting season for many friends and family. He enjoyed antiquing with his wife Sandy and was an avid deer and bear hunter.
NORMAL – Cathy Hall Nottoli, 60, Normal, passed away Tuesday, September 25, at Advocate BroMenn Hospice, Normal with family at her side.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, September 28 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. There will be a private family funeral at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Cathy was born August 4, 1958, in Peoria, the daughter of Herbert T. and G. Burnette Bargar Hall. She married John G. Nottoli, III on July 24, 1999 in Bloomington. He survives.
Cathy is survived by her son, Jason R. Vandegraft, Normal; two sisters, Pam Hall, Indianapolis and Joni (Mark) Thrift, Humble, Texas; special cousin Nancy (Paul) Stanley, Dallas; four nieces, Andrea (Josh) McCauley, Chicago; Shelly (Gary) Brittain, Frisco, Texas; Rachel (Matthew) Smith, Kingwood, Texas; Crystal (Doug) Brittain, Humble, Texas; and three nephews, Robert (Joni) Thrift, Dayton, Texas; Tyler Schwartz, Indianapolis; and Austin Schwartz, Seattle.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father.
Cathy was a 1976 graduate of Normal Community High School and later, Western Illinois University. Cathy held several different positions at BroMenn Hospital, later Advocate BroMenn Hospital, culminating a twenty year career as a physician recruiter for both hospitals. She was also a physician recruiter at Rush Memorial Hospital and University of Illinois Chicago Hospital, both in Chicago, and was most recently director of recruiting for cardiology at Enterprise Medical Recruiting, St. Louis. Cathy was involved in several organizations over the years including Red Cross, Easter Seals and the McLean County Arts Center. Cathy was an author, having published her first children’s book in 2016.
The family thanks Dr. Sriratana and the staff at Advocate BroMenn Hospice for their care and support but especially Dr. Sasikali Royurru for her compassionate, attentive care and comforting presence for the family.
Cathy had a bright smile, an outgoing personality and a spirit of kindness and generosity that made her the magnificent person she was! We will remember Cathy for her love of family and friends, her zest for life, her indomitable spirit, her passionate gardening (and love of Zinnias!), and her love of travel. Cathy was a loving and patient wife, mother, aunt, sister and daughter, and will be greatly missed by all of those who were fortunate to have ever been a part of her life. Cathy was always happiest when with family and friends. She will be remembered forever for having an enduring and profound positive influence on her son, Jason, to whom she taught strength, confidence and perseverance. She was truly his role model. We will miss the sparkle in her eyes and laughter in her voice. She lived a full life. Lastly, Cathy is survived by her constant companion, best friend, office mate and namesake of her publishing company, Coco Chanel.
BLOOMINGTON – Gary L. Spurling, 70 of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Gary’s service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Pastor Dan Jassman officiating. Gary was born on February 10, 1948 in Lincoln, Illinois. He is the son of Merlin and Mary (Langley) Spurling. He married Barbara Kiper on March 24, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gary is survived by his wife Barbara, Bloomington; children, Angela Snyder, Pontiac; Amy Veach, Kama Snyder and Briannon Snyder all of Bloomington. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Hayden and Austin Veach, his brother, Larry (Cindy) Spurling, Ohio and sister-in-law, Coleen Spurling of Ottawa, Ill.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Troy Spurling and a brother, Terry Spurling.
He served in the US Marine Corps and worked as a Police Officer for the Secretary of State Police, retiring in 2001 after 23 years. He was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police and the American Legion Post 1150, Downs.
Gary enjoyed boating, camping and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mary Ann was born June 6, 1943 in Fairbury the daughter of Alfred and Edna (Heinz) Hitch. She married Larry Boruff on January 10, 1961 in Chatsworth. Her husband Larry survives in Chatsworth.
Other survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Sadat) Mostafa of Iowa City, Ia; Corinne (Jack) Wortz of Delaware, Oh.; two grandchildren, Samantha Mostafa of Iowa City, Ia.; David Wortz of Delaware, Oh.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Christine Morgan.
Mary Ann was a familiar face at Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury. She retired after 20 years of employment at the grocery store in Fairbury. She always had an afghan to enter in the Fairbury Fair and loved to put puzzles together in her free time. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairbury.

Lexington –Beverly E. Dunahee, 84, of Lexington passed away at 10:30 pm Friday, September 28, 2018, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Lexington United Methodist Church, Lexington; with Pastor Garry Gromley officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac.

Beverly was born November 20, 1933 in Kewanee; the daughter of Melvin and Ruth (Dahl) Gould. She married Kenneth J. Dunahee on February 20, 1955 in Neponset, IL. Her husband, Kenneth preceded her in death on February 25, 2012. Her parents, eldest son, Douglas Jay Dunahee and one sister, Marlene Spencer also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Brian Dunahee of rural Chenoa.
Beverly grew up in a small town of Neponset, IL; the daughter of a third grade school teacher. After meeting the love of her life in college and later marrying, she spent her adult life living just outside the much bigger town of Lexington. She and her husband Ken were well-known farmers in the area, beloved neighbors and friends.
She was active in the community including the Lexington United Methodist Church and a mainstay of the ice cream social for years. Anyone that walked beans for the Dunahee’s knew that the real pay was the fresh cinnamon rolls for snack and the grilled pork chops and mashed potatoes for lunch prepared by Bev.
Bev and Ken were always to be seen at their two son’s athletic events during the heyday years of Lexington athletics. After retiring from farming, Bev and Ken moved into town where they enjoyed socializing and keeping the wild birds well fed.
Bev had a passion for crafts and created imaginative seasonal decorations as well as inventive Halloween and 4th of July costumes when her boys were young. She also loved genealogy and spent many hours with her mother tracing back their ancestry, enjoying and sharing the stories of the more interesting characters they met along the genealogical trail. She had a warm and generous soul which in today’s world is truly to be celebrated.
FAIRBURY– Robert Allen Sikorski, 71, Fairbury, died at 5:30 am Saturday, September 29, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a prayer service at 4:30 pm and a I.O.O.F. service at 7:00pm. Burial will be in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY at a later date.
Bob was born November 28, 1946 in Fairbury, IL the son of Sigmund V. and Bernice Golembiewski Sikorski. They precede him in death.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia June (Charles Wayne) Cammer, Huntington Station, NY.
Bob was a 1964 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School and a 1968 graduate of Illinois State University, Normal. He served in the United States Air Force retiring with the rank of Captain. After retirement he enjoyed substitute teaching and was active in many community organizations. Bob served 2 terms as an Alderman for the City of Fairbury’s 2nd Ward. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Fairbury and the Knight of Columbus council # 7348, longtime member of Arrowhead Lodge, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #290 serving as Noble Grand, Past Noble Grand and Treasurer, the Fairbury Lions Club and was active with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob currently was serving on the committee of Troop #1870 as the Institutional Representative for the Lions Club. Bob had gone on several trips with the troop taking Scouts to the WD Boise Scout Camp on Bach Bay in Ontario, Canada. He also served for many years as a volunteer camp ranger at the camp during the summer. He was a member of an adult crew that traveled to the camp every spring and fall to make repairs and open and close the camp.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mildred Frances Kridner, 97 of Gloucester, Va., formerly of Chenoa, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at her home in Gloucester, Va.
Mrs. Kridner was born July 23, 1921 in Pontiac, the daughter of Ray and Mary (Wagner) Askew. She was a true farmer’s wife. After her husband’s death at an early age, she began running the family farm with her son, until her health was a challenge. She moved to Virginia with her daughter and became an avid bingo player; NASCAR Fan (Jeff Gordon #24) she loved crafts and Prime Rib at Nick’s Steak House on Friday nights.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Bostic of Gloucester, Va.; son Dale (Bonnie) Kridner of Chenoa; four grandchildren, Danny Kridner, Melissa Kridner, Linda Koziol and Cheryle Hensley; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Montgomery, Caroline Hensley, Amy Hensley, Paul Kridner, Tommy Kridner, Debra Flynn, Timothy Soliday, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Fred Kridner, one daughter, Cheryle Potts, son in-law, Gene Bostic and one grandson Steven Kridner preceded her in death. Her funeral service in Illinois will be 2 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa; with Pastor Debbie Honegger officiating. Interment will follow in Chenoa Twp. Cemetery, Chenoa.

NORMAL – Thomas Russell Rees, 78, of Normal, passed away at 7:41 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.
Born March 12, 1940 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Russell and Gertrude Kulibert Rees, Tom married Janet Shonkwiler on December 21, 1984 in Las Vegas Nevada. She survives along with his son Richard (Lori) Rees, daughters Michelle Rees Powell and Wendy (Eric) Gruber, step daughter, Dawn Shonkwiler and grandchildren, Chauntel (Stefan) Trusewych, Branden Powell and Kasey Rees. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Rees of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and brother Mark Stromme of Neenah, Wisconsin, brother-in-law Richard (Karrie) Szalkowski, son in law, Mike Powell, sister in law Terry Stromme and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Harley Stromme.
Tom served in the US Air Force from 1957 – 1961. He then worked for State Farm Insurance for 41 years in Administrative Services, retiring 2002. He and Janet loved travel and went on more than 60 cruises. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Barb was born November 5, 1940 in Bloomington, the daughter of Alfred E. and Mavis Marie Nichols Jones. She married Gerald W. Kelly on December 7, 1957 in Bloomington. He survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Kimberly (James) Riley of Lexington and Kristine (Ronald) Adcock of Normal, a daughter-in-law, Lynda Kelly of Lawrenceville, GA; two sons, Kraig (Linda) Kelly of Kennesaw, GA and Kent (Antoinette) Kelly of Wexford, PA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Mulhall of Bloomington and a sister-in-law, Pat Jones of Zion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kevin Gerald Kelly, a brother, Alfred Jones and her parents-in-law, Ferne and James Kelly.
Barb graduated from Bloomington High School and worked several years for Laesch Dairy. She volunteered for many organizations including St. Jude, Mennonite Hospital on their cancer floor and hospice.
Barb was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Lakeside Country Club.
Barbara was devoted to family; she was a loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Gulf Shores, AL, where Barb and Jerry made their second home.

NORMAL – Larry Wayne Kennedy Jr., 57, Normal and formerly of Cooksville, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax followed by his funeral service at noon. The family suggests memorials be given to the Larry Wayne Kennedy Jr. family.
Wayne was born November 15, 1960 in Bloomington, the son of Larry Wayne and Gwen Pickett Kennedy. He married Christina Day on July 12, 1997 in Bloomington. She survives in Normal.
Other survivors include 3 sons, Kevin (Leah) Van Hook, Hudson, Christopher (Nichole) Van Hook, Normal, Casey (Chelsey) Van Hook, Bloomington, his mother, Gwen Kennedy, 7 grandchildren, Devin, Kevin, Marshall and Olivia Van Hook, Alex and Zoey Van Hook, Joey Deiliosa, 1 sister, Toni (Anthony) Alexander, Oak Forest, 1 nephew, Eric Alexander, and several aunts and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Wayne was a 1978 graduate of Octavia High School and attended Illinois State University. He retired as an assistant manager at K-Mart, Decatur after 38 years of service.
Wayne was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed following the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs. His hobbies included playing softball, bowling and fishing.
BLOOMINGTON – James R. Prodehl, 81, of Bloomington; beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal; with his family by his side. There were so many rejoicing to receive him into heaven. There are so very many who will miss him until we too can again be joined with him.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Jim’s life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Chenoa Baptist Church, Chenoa; with Pastor Jefferson Williams officiating. Jim was born May 4, 1937 in Joliet, the son of Raymond and Blanche (Allen) Prodehl. He married Lona Reedy on June 6, 1956. That union brought forth three much loved children, Janice, Lawrence and Christine. He later married Deborah (Hoover) Adams on October 24, 1998. That union brought forth two step sons, Brett and Ben and a magnificent German Shepherd, Cage. Survivors include his wife, Deborah, his children, step sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and Lona, a much beloved sister, Pat Wilmoth, who was especially close to Jim and mourns his passing immeasurably.
Preceding him in death were his sisters, Janet, Arlene, Jean, Betty, Shirley and a brother, Raymond, step-son, Ben Adams. His best friend on this earth, his brother in-law, Darrel P. Wilmoth also preceded Jim in death. The two of them could build anything and did. They were excellent carpenters. Jim was a master of precision in wood working. Two of Jim’s fishing buddies, Ron & Bob, greeted Jim as he arrived in heaven. May you forever swap fishing tales and again engage in fishing in heaven.
Jim’s long career with Caterpillar began as a machine shop apprentice in data technology and progressed to traveling the world for Caterpillar in Information Technology. Jim was instrumental in the founding of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at University of Illinois. Jim had high level involvement in Guide, an IBM mainframe user’s group at Caterpillar before his retirement. Jim had a very strong work ethic and his philosophy was that if you were dissatisfied with your current position, you worked harder at being promoted or redirected. More than anything Jim accomplished in his career with Caterpillar, Jim was first a father, husband, grandfather and grounded soul. He never allowed his successful career and his status to corrode his character. He enjoyed contributing to the happiness of others. I Love You Jim. I always will.
The family enjoyed many years at their cottage on Big Sand Lake in Wisconsin. The memories are forever inscribed on our hearts. Jim loved to fish and was a good teacher and example to his children and grandchildren on safety of the lake. Jim’s voice was soft and his heart was large. Jim loved to read, and patronized both the Bloomington and Phelps, WI; public libraries frequently.
Jim died on Deb’s birthday, October 12th. His gift to Deb was to see him suffer no more. Jim knew Deb loved snow. At noon on October 12th big fluffy flakes of snow started and continued until late afternoon. Jim was telling Deb he had arrived in heaven and sent her his gift, the snow that she loved.
The family extends much gratitude to Advocate BroMenn Hospice, Home Care and staff and many thanks to Dr. Hoschek and Nurse Joy for the care given to Jim. Ethel what would I have done without you? You are my angel on earth. Only Ethel Regenold would arrive at my house at 3:30 a.m. and stay with me the duration. Pastor Jeff, Jim loved you. Last but not least, Jim loved Denver omelets at the Green Garden after church on Sunday.

FAIRBURY – Ronald W. Vedder, 82, Fairbury, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with Pastor Ann Champion officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to the Indian Creek Golf and Country Club or Southeastern Livingston County Ambulance Service, both in Fairbury.
Ron was born January 11, 1936 in Jacksonville, Ill. the son of Jesse and Clara Lacey Vedder. He married Shirley Sperry on November 7, 1954 in Jacksonville. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include a daughter, Deborah (John) Kaisner, a son, Randall Vedder, both of Fairbury, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sister, Betty Pennell, O’Fallon.
He is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Ron was a career police officer serving as chief in Paxton before entering the Illinois State Police Academy in 1968. He served 25 years with the District 6 Illinois State Police retiring as a master sergeant.
Ron was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #41, the First United Methodist Church, Indian Creek Golf and Country Club, both of Fairbury. He was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant and quail. He also raised German short hair bird dogs for many years.
FAIRBURY – Merle W. Kaisner, 95 of Fairbury, passed away at 10:35 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at his residence in Fairbury.
His funeral will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Fairbury Apostolic Christian Church, Fairbury; with the Ministers of the Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Fairbury.

Mr. Kaisner was born December 10, 1922 in Fairbury, the son of Joseph and Ida (Sutter) Kaisner. He married Gladys “Marge” Zimmerman on February 22, 1948 in Forrest. His wife preceded him in death on May 8, 2015. His parents, one infant son, one daughter, Becky Kupferschmid, two grandchildren, Kristie Kay Kupferschmid, Natasha Stewart, and one sister, Alma Jean Schmidgall also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Wanda (Alfred) Kupferschmid of Forrest; Robert (Cheryl) Kaisner, Jerry (Donna) Kaisner, Don (Leona) Kaisner, Gwen Knapp, and LeAnn Kaeb, all of Fairbury; 35 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson, three brothers, Hartzel (Mary) Kaisner of Detroit, Mich.; Leon (Eunice) Kaisner of Peoria; Larry (Cynthia) Kaisner of Forrest; three sisters, Helen Follmer of Newberry Park, Cal.; Janet (Roger) Farney of Bloomington; Lou Ida (Richard) Steffen of Forrest and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kaisner farmed for many years in the Fairbury-Forrest area. He also served as a maintenance man at Fairview Haven Retirement Community prior to his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed woodworking. He was a retired minister and member of the Fairbury Apostolic Christian Church.

BLOOMINGTON– Emma “Uschi” Kelly, 85 of Bloomington and formerly of Colfax, passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 30, 2018 at Heritage Health, Normal.
Mrs. Kelly was born October 2, 1933 in Boblingen, Germany the daughter of Frank and Barbara Faust Spath. She married John Francis Kelly on June 29, 1957 in Boblingen Germany. He preceded her in death April 6, 1966.
Survivors include her children, Barb (Doug) Drilling, Rich Kelly, Heidi (Steve) Coan, Scott (Sheri) Kelly, Tim (Ann) Kelly, grandchildren, Kristen Drilling, Kelsey Drilling, Brooke (Matt) Tool, Sarah Kelly, Bryan (Jie) Jackson, Kari Kelly, Nate Kelly, Tracy (Erik) Esposito, Laura (Jim) Ferguson, great grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Tool, Dylan and Kaden Esposito, Hoyt and Hadley Ferguson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Kelly worked at Fincham’s Steakhaus for over 25 years and Ricky’s in Colfax for 3 years before retiring in 1997.
Her hobbies included cooking, gardening and watching all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved cooking for her family, friends and her customers at Fincham’s and Ricky’s. Emma was a loving and caring mother who always put her family first especially after her husband passed away. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mom.

CHENOA – Dale “Manard” Strike, 51, of Chenoa passed away unexpectedly at 9:45 a.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Chenoa.
His funeral will be 11 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Chenoa Township Cemetery, Chenoa.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2018 also at the funeral home in Chenoa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to Chenoa Fireman’s Fund, Chenoa.
Dale was born February 25, 1967 in Normal, the son of John and Bertha (Martin) Strike. His parents, John & Bertha survive in Chenoa. His maternal and paternal grandparents preceded him in death.
Other survivors include his siblings, Scott Strike of Lexington; Mark Strike of Chenoa; Dawn Strike-Halcom of Bloomington; and numerous aunts, uncles, two nieces and two nephews.
He attended Chenoa schools and graduated high school in 1985. During his time at Chenoa High School, he was a member of the wrestling team.
In 1991, Manard joined the Chenoa Volunteer Fire Department, serving for nearly 28 years, the last 10 being Captain. He loved firefighting and serving his community. It was said by many that he would do anything to help anyone in need. He was also on the 4th of July fire department’s clown truck, portraying the “convict” by displaying hysterical antics in the parade every year.
Manard was employed in the agricultural and farming industry for many years, and most recently employed by the City of Chenoa. He was a strong, efficient and diligent worker in all capacities and looked forward to going to work every day.
He was usually the “life of the party,” with his quick wit and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his hometown and many friends. We will never find another to fill his shoes. We know he is in Heaven because the Devil is afraid he’ll just put the fire out!

Jerry was born February 28, 1942 in Fairbury, IL the son of Vernon L. and Olive L. Harms Stephens. He married Jan Elaine Purdum on September 2, 1962 in Fairbury. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Scott L. (Joyce) Stephens, Oregon, IL, Randall J. (Angela) Stephens, San Diego, CA, five grandchildren, Libby Stephens, Carly Stephens, Deven Sharma, Diya Sharma and Crosby Stephens, one brother, Keith (Barbara) Stephens, Columbia, MO and one sister, Cheryl Rork.
He is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dan Rork.
Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School and Midstate Business College, Peoria. He served in the National Guard and was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, Ethels Lodge, Forrest, Pontiac Elks Club and Indian Creek Country Club, Fairbury.
BLOOMINGTON – Kipp C. Austin, 64, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:48 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2018 in Bloomington.
A Celebration of Kipp’s Life will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Gathering Room at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Military rites will begin the celebration at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kipp was born December 2, 1953 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Clifford and Dorothy Bohner Austin. He married Sylvia Knickerbocker on September 11, 1992 in Marshall, Michigan. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Zachary (Amy) Austin of Alto, MI and William Knickerbocker, III of Crest Hill; and one daughter, Crystal Knickerbocker of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Addyson and Kathryn Austin; Aiden and Madison Knickerbocker and Ilene Norton; and William Knickerbocker, IV; a sister, Marliene Porter and a brother, Matthew Austin, both of Jackson, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kipp was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, serving as a US Army Green Beret. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Parachute Badge, the Master Parachute Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.
Kipp worked as an over-the-road truck driver, most recently with Circle K. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Don graduated from Waterloo High School in Ohio where he participated in basketball, track, and marching band.
He was a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor Company. After he retired, he repaired washers and dryers.
He was a steward and a member of the UAW Local 2096, Pontiac and a member of the Midnight Striker Bowling Team, APA Bowling League, and ACA Pool League.
Donald was a man who put your needs before his and was always willing to lend a hand, even though you didn’t need it.

Francis T. “Frank” Flannelly III, 59, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:31 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home.

Frank was born August 31, 1959 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of Francis and Rita Boyd Flannelly II. He married Lynn Christin Hufford on September 23, 1988 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Lafayette, Indiana. She survives.
He is also survived by three children, Francis Flannelly IV, Paige Flannelly and Brooke Flannelly; his parents, Frank and Rita Flannelly, his mother-in-law, Marjorie “Peg” Hufford; seven siblings, Mary Pat (Maurice) Rozwat, Theresa (Fred) Smith, Eileen (David) Bormann, John (Kim) Flannelly, Michael (Suzanne) Flannelly, Ellen (Michael) Melloh and Patrick (Kristin) Flannelly; a sister-in-law, Robin (Robert) Manwaring and a brother-in-law, Jay (Patty) Hufford; and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jimmy D. Hufford.
Frank worked for State Farm Insurance Co’s for 34 years. He had an active real estate license for many years and held the designation of CPCU. Frank graduated in 1982 from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana and was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church for more than 20 years.
Not many people can wear as many hats as Frank. A devoted father, husband, and soccer/golf/softball/basketball/baseball coach extraordinaire. Although he coached almost every sport with patience and ease, his greatest gift was coaching his family and friends through life’s greatest achievements and toughest obstacles. While he was a loyal State Farm employee by day, complex house projects were no match for Frank. A perfect life for Frank was one full of the simple pleasures and making sure his family was taken care of. Frank was a problem-solver and his tact for researching the solution made him the greatest asset in any situation, big or small. What he left in this world was the purest sense of generosity that inspired everyone he knew. Not many people can encounter cancer three times with such tenacity and grace. His children will remember him for his thoughtfulness, work ethic, and his unrelenting love for his family. His wife will remember him for his patience, determination, unyielding support, and genuine compassion. Frank’s dedication to his faith and family continues to inspire and encourage all those who were blessed to know him. While his life on earth has come to an end, his spirit resides in all who knew him. Frank brought to this world an unfailing friendship that will never be forgotten.
Karen C. Crull, 65 of Bloomington, passed away, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at her home.
Karen was born on October 23, 1953 in Pontiac, Illinois. She is the daughter of Robert and Genevieve Havener Walls. She married Clayton Crull on July 6, 1989 in Bloomington. He survives.
Also surviving are 3 children; Marty (Shannon) Montgomery, Bloomington; Cassi Crull, Normal and Katie (David) Holliger, Normal; 3 grandchildren, Jaccob Morris, Selah Holliger and Harper Holliger and her 2 sisters, Brenda Morgan, Normal and Jill (Don) Tolan, Washburn.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother.
Karen is a graduate of Minonk High School. She owned and operated Third Sister Limited from 1999 – 2008. She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed all types of plants and was known for her green thumb. She was also known for her crafting and flair for decorating.
Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Karen’s celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2-5pm with a time of sharing at 3pm at the Ozark House, Bloomington.

She married Wendell Nylander on July 27, 1947, in Chenoa. He passed away September 4, 1994.
Surviving are her daughter Peggy Jean (Richard) Peterson of Brenham, TX; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Nagel of Fairbury, Jeff (Kristi) Story of TN, Ben Peterson and Jimmi Peterson both of TX, Tara (Mike) Norris of Fairbury, and Chris Bivens of KY; 15 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Carol Nylander of Chicago; son -in-law, Jim Story of White House, TN; and sister, Arlene Walter of Fairbury.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Butch Nylander; daughter, Barb Story; grandson, Nathan Nylander; three brothers and four sisters.
Mary Ellen owned and operated Nylander’s Flowers and Gifts in Fairbury for 13 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury where she was member of and co-president of many organizations and a Sunday school teacher for 20 years.

Mike was born on January 25, 1943 in Bloomington. He is the son of Clarence and Mildred Snodgrass Moffitt. He married Mary L. Ferrara on January 6, 1965. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2016.
Mike is survived by his 2 sons, Timothy M. Moffitt and Matthew A. Moffitt both of Bloomington; grandchildren, Ashley Moffitt, Oklahoma City, Ok; Andrea Moffitt, Derry, New Hampshire; Matalyn Moffitt, Normal and Sophia Moffitt, Bloomington; a great granddaughter, Aurora Paige; 1 sister, Marsha Cremeens, Normal and 1 brother, Jim (Emily) Cremeens, Ft. Collins, Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his Parents. Mike served in the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was a member of Historic St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bloomington, the American Legion Post 56, Bloomington in which he served multiple times as Post Commander.
Mike worked as a car sales man for Neldner Ford in Lexington and Rebbec Motors, Bloomington.
Mike was a longtime coach for the Little League Football for 38 years and assisted coaching the Youth Boxing at Western Avenue, Bloomington and was an avid Chicago Bears Fan.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.
FORREST– Thomas Allen Stephens, 83 of Forrest, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 as a result of a single vehicle accident.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a Masonic Service at 7:00pm. His funeral will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Forrest United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynette Barnett officiating. A second visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Forrest Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Baby Fold in Bloomington or the Cunningham Children’s Home in Champaign.
Tom was born May 20, 1935 in Pleasant Ridge Twp., the youngest of 8 children the son of Shelby and Clella Perkins Stephens. He married Carolyn Rinkenberger on February 22, 1959 in Gridley. She survives in Forrest.
Also surviving are his children, Diane (Ken) Toman of Lady Lake, FL and Lisa (Kevin) Edelman of Forrest; three grandsons, Jason (Gina) Maurer and Darren (Sara) Maurer all of Fairbury and Daniel Maurer of Bloomington; four great-grandchildren. The Stephens’ also hosted foreign exchange students Elisabeth Hammer and Hubbie Walkner both of Austria. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Tom farmed in the Wing area for 41 years and was a part time truck driver for Trainor Grain. He was a member of the Tarbolten Masonic Lodge, Forrest United Methodist Church, Knoll Lodge, Fairbury and served many years as a trustee for Forrest Township.
Tom enjoyed bowling, camping, traveling and spending time with his many friends.
Mary E. Sheehan, 85, of Bloomington and formerly of Danvers, passed away at 12:08 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Her service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to VFW Post 454 Ladies Auxiliary Relief Fund.
Mary was born August 28, 1933 in Gridley, the daughter of Merle William and Charlotte Mabel Friend Scarbeary. She married James T. Sheehan on December 6, 1952 in Peoria. He died August 6, 2011.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Diane and husband Curtis Hawk of Bloomington, Teresa Lyn and husband Steve Johnsen of Trout Creek, MT and Rita Lee Zirkel of Keokuk, IA; one son, James Timothy Sheehan and wife Irene of El Paso, TX; ten grandchildren, Bryce Zirkel, Melissa Marriott, Bridget Daniel, Cris Stanek, Brent Zirkel, Micki Gaddy, Bryan Zirkel, Justin Pressley, Brandon Zirkel, and Britina Condren; twenty-one great grandchildren and a sister, Betty Fulmer of Little Rock, AR.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Dillon Sheehan on October 11, 2011, her parents, step-father Charles Lanigan; two sisters, Esther Brooks and Joan Stine; a brother Daniel Scarbeary and a step-sister Maxine Casselman
Mary was employed at State Farm Insurance, ManPower, Owens Nursery, Bloomington Computer Center, MaGirl Supply, Hardesty Heating and retired from Commercial Packaging Company in 2013.
She was a life member and Past President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 454, a Charter member of the World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA, a member of the McLean County Museum of History and the David Davis Foundation.
Mary volunteered for the McLean County Museum of History and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454 and Auxiliary. She enjoyed working with the veterans at the Danville VA and Quincy Veterans Home. She was chairman for the VFW Scholarship Program both locally and District 7 for many years.
The greatest pleasure in her life was her family, friends and helping others, particularly working with the veterans, because they are a special group of people who have given so much. She loved and appreciated the beauty of nature.
