Thomas Smith

BLOOMINGTON – Thomas A. Smith, 62, of Towanda, passed away at 9:44 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2019 at his home.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Tom was born December 1, 1956 in Danville, the son of Thomas E. and Karen Ingram Smith.  He married Therese Ann Seibert on July 14, 1990 in Normal.  She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Karen Smith of Normal; two children, Myles Smith and Lauren Smith, both of Towanda; a brother, Tim (Lori) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Randy.

Tom graduated from Olympia High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Information sciences from Illinois State University.  He worked at State Farm Insurance Co’s over forty years, retiring in August 2018.

Tom was a member of St. Patrick Church of Merna and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  He was very involved in his children’s activities including coaching basketball and baseball and watching dance competitions for many years.  Tom always put his family first and will be remembered for his positivity and compassion.

Tom was a loving husband, father, son and friend who will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

Robert James Trainor

FAIRBURY – Robert James Trainor, 62, Fairbury, died at 12:33 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence, Fairbury.

His funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Monday, May 13, 2019 at St. Andrew Catholic Parish, Fairbury with Fr. Scott Archer officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be 3:30 to 8:00 pm Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with at rosary to be recited at 3:00 pm.  The family suggests memorial donations be given to OSF Hospice, Children’s Hospital of Illinois or St. Andrew Catholic Parish.

Bob was born March 6, 1957 in Streator, IL the son of John A. and Dorothy Stahly Trainor.  He married LuAnn Verdun on February 20, 1981 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell.  She survives in Fairbury.

Other survivors include his father, Jack Trainor, Wing, children, Mark (Kara) Trainor, Joseph (Lindsey) Trainor, both of Fairbury, Greg (Faith) Trainor, Champaign, Katie (Lance) Golliday, Lexington, Jay Trainor, Denver, CO, 8 grandchildren, Jase, Kyler, Harry, Lucy, Sammy, and Jack Trainor, Luke and Hayleigh Golliday, 1 brother, Mike (Teresa) Trainor, Chatsworth, 3 sisters, Pat (Eric) Rieger, Lynn (Mike) Reis, both of Forrest, Ann (Cal) Zimmerman, Fairbury.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy and a grandson Ethan Trainor.

Bob was a lifetime farmer and a 1975 graduate of Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Parish, Fairbury, the Knights of Columbus, and Knoll Lodge.

Bob was happiest outdoors, at the cabin or by the pool, surrounded by family and friends.

Catherine Mary (Katie) Power

Catherine Mary (Katie) Power (Duffy-Pils Memorial Home)

BLOOMINGTON – Catherine Mary (Katie) Power, 89, passed peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, May 11 surrounded by her loving family. Catherine Mary Payne was born February 7, 1930 to Charles H. and Gertrude (Scurrah) Payne in Bloomington IL.

Katie spent her early years helping in her parent’s grocery store on the city’s west side.  Following graduation from BHS and during her year at Illinois Wesleyan, a chance meeting with a young man from Chenoa led to a lifelong romance.  On May 14, 1949, Katie married the love of her life, Jim Power and continued a beautiful marriage that would last 65 years.  Katie and Jim created a loving family of eight children and established their home on Warren Street in Chenoa.  Situated across from the grade school and city park, it was truly the Grand Central Station and a fun-filled welcome center for all friends, family and neighborhood children.

Katie was a selfless and beautiful lady of strong faith, with a life commitment to raising and caring for her family and their families. Katie’s devotion to her children’s upbringing included instilling a sense of love, faith, respect, kindness, sharing, creativity and every ‘good night’, call or visit ended with ‘I Love You’. Katie’s humble and forgiving nature, her love of song and sense of humor were also ingrained in her family and those fortunate to know her.  Having celebrated 65 years of marriage with Jim, we are comforted they are reunited to celebrate their 70th anniversary this week.

Katie is survived by her children: Patricia (Marshall) Johnson, Pontiac, Chuck (Lori) Power, Fairbury, Mary (Leo) Nachreiner, Sauk City, WI, John (Marty) Power, Bloomington, Jim (Lori) Power, Madison, WI, Mike (Sandra) Power, Chenoa; one brother, Charles M (Lina) Payne, Bloomington, brother-in-law, Tom (Pat) Power, AZ; 16 Grandchildren:  Derrick Bowen, Christina (Ryan) Clark, Tricia (Jeff) Minor, Nicole (Seth) Teigen, Whitney (Josh) Logemann, Katie (Brian) Dunn, Kayla (Derrick) Raney, Kelsey (Justin) Breen, Terri (Jeremy) Harris, Dan (Jessica) Power, Andy Power, Jacob Power, Grant Power, Jenna (Justin) Schroen, Chelsea (Brad) Dohman, Thomas Plumb and 22 great grandchildren and many nieces/nephews.  Katie was preceded in death by her husband Jim; a daughter Therese Power Bowen; son and daughter-in-law Douglas Power and Jennifer Plumb; and granddaughter Kelly Nachreiner.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, May 14 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chenoa, IL and 9 to 10 AM on Wednesday prior to the service at the Church.  Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, May 15 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Carl LoPresti officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chenoa.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to the Chenoa Public Library.

Herbert Donald Bellot

Herbert Donald Bellot, 97,

FAIRBURY – Herbert Donald Bellot, 97, Fairbury, died at 8:05 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Good Samaritan Home, Pontiac.

His funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth.  Burial will be in Forrest Twp. Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion Posts.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fairbury VFW post 9789.

Mr. Bellot was born July 4, 1921 in Odell, IL the son of Herbert B. and Verna C. Bauman Bellot.  He married Daisy Waters on September 18, 1947 in Fairbury.  She survives.

Their marriage of over 70 years blessed them with 4 children, Betty Hand, Pleasentview, TN, William (Cheryl) Bellot, Chatham, James (Phyllis) Bellot, Forrest, and Mary Frances Gambardella, Cornell, 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and 1 brother, John (Ella) Bellot, Saunemin.

He is preceded in death by 1 brother, 2 sisters, and 2 grandchildren.

Mr. Bellot was a graduate of Odell High School. Donald served our country in the US Army as a Sergeant in WWII from July 13, 1942 to September 25, 1945.  He was a member of TEC 4 Company B, EBSR Asian Pacific Theater and the Philippine’s Liberation Theater.  He was employed by the Illinois State Police, and later for the Department of Corrections in Pontiac where he worked in the carpentry and maintenance departments.

He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth, the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 9789 and American Legion Post 54, and Arrowhead Lodge, all in Fairbury.  His hobbies included camping and fishing especially at Rend Lake where they enjoyed returning year after year.

Helen Fillipponi, 83, of Normal (Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home)

NORMAL – Helen L. Fillipponi, 83, of Normal, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at Welbrook at Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at Noon, Wednesday, May 22 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30 a.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice.

Helen was born May 13, 1936 in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Lambert F.and Vivian Irene Simmonds Halsema.  She married her best friend, Jack P. Fillipponi on November 20, 1954 in Bloomington.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, four children, Julie Fillipponi of Missouri, Michael (Lynne) Fillipponi of Colorado Springs, CO, Angela Fillipponi of Danvers, and Sharon (Terry Hines) Fillipponi of Waterford, MI; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Helen graduated from Normal Community High School and along with her husband, co-owned Normal Welding Works in Normal.

Helen loved her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was an avid gardener and loved flowers.

COLFAX – Shelia Ann Barker, 47, Colfax, died at 5:05 pm Thursday, May 23, 2019 at her residence, Colfax.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax.  Private burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington at a later date.  The family suggest memorials be given to the Shelia Ann Barker family.

Shelia was born August 6, 1971 in Bloomington, IL the daughter of Charles and Sharon K. Caldwell Barker.

Survivors include her mother, Sharon of Cooksville, three children, Stephanie Richards, Kelli (Grant Anderson) Richards and David Stonestreet, all of Colfax, one brother, Terry Lee (Teresa) Barker, Cooksville, and four grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles and one sister, Carmen Sue Barker.

Shelia was a 1989 graduate of Octavia High School and had been a customer service associate for H&R Block.

BLOOMINGTON – Donna Joyce Lindelof, 90, of the Bickford House in Bloomington, formerly of Sibley, passed away at 7:18 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Chuck Bahn officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sibley.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomington.

Donna was born July 28, 1928 in Windsor, the daughter of L. Harlan and Lucille Edwards Yunker.  She married Lester W. “Ez” Lindelof on April 3, 1948 in Dekalb.  He died on June 17, 2001.

Survivors include two daughters, Patti Jo (Don) Harms of Erie, CO and Diane (Jeff) Jeakins of Normal; two grandchildren, Josh (Sonya) Harms and Jessica (Josh) Gee; four great grandchildren, Harrison and Lily Harms and Davin Jeakins and Miles Gee; five siblings, Jerry Yunker, Clara (Wally) G’Fellers, Larry Yunker, Linda Butler and Darlene (Rich) Boyles.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Tom Yunker.

Donna worked for Central Soya in Gibson City for over twenty-five years.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Geraldine Boyle Becker

BLOOMINGTON – Geraldine Boyle Becker, 83, of Bloomington, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Normal.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric S. Powell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Peoria. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, at the church. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epiphany Catholic School, Normal, or to Central Catholic High School.

Geri was born March 12, 1936 in Peoria, to Leonard O. and Agnes Scurry Boyle. She married James A. “Jim” Becker on January 15, 1954. Jim passed away in 2017.

She is survived by five children, Deborah (Dale) Tunnell, James (Mary Boyer) Becker, Casper Knight, Shari (Jeff) Friederich, and Nick (Kari) Becker; ten grandchildren; and one brother, Patrick (Donna Gay) Boyle.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; and four siblings: June Westerdale, Connie Fitzgerald, Maggi Manca and Leonard O. Boyle, Jr.

Geri was a 1953 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady, she was a dedicated caregiver, homemaker, and friend. She tirelessly supported her husband Jim through multiple bouts with cancer and many other ailments, focusing her remaining energy into caring for her children, parents, in-laws, and anyone else in need of support.  She loved reading, cooking and crafting.  She volunteered extensively in the Leukemia ward at St Jude’s Midwest Affiliate and at St Bernard’s Catholic Church and School.   Geri shared in a profound faith with her husband Jim and spent much of her later years in prayer for family and friends. Geri was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal, and a former member of Holy Family and St. Bernard’s Catholic Churches in Peoria, and Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.

NORMAL – Elsie Marie Rebman, 87, of Normal, passed away at 5:49 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Heritage Health in Normal.

Her graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.  Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Sweet Home Ministries.

She was born June 5, 1931 in McLeansboro, IL, daughter of Virgil and Nellie Marie Young Smith.  She married Richard A. Rebman on March 15, 1952, he preceded her in death on December 23, 1995.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are her children, Richard “Rick” (Paula) Rebman of Urbana, Diane Rebman of Montgomery, TX, Mark Rebman of Bloomington, Lori Rebman of Springfield, Craig Rebman of Conroe, TX and Steve Rebman of Ft. Myers, FL.   Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and one sister, Joan Coyne of Mesa, AZ.

Elsie was an avid flower gardener, but her greatest enjoyment came with spending time with her family.

BLOOMINGTON – Corrine M. Foley, 81, of Bloomington, passed away at 11:25 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at her home.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Corrine was born June 24, 1937 in Chicago, the daughter of Earl and Josephine Olejnik Osterland.  She married James T. Foley on February 7, 1959 in Chicago.  He preceded her in death on August 10, 2010.

Survivors include five children, Thomas (Deb) Foley of Bolingbrook, Jeannette (Mark) Sofia of Plainwell, MI, Christine (Rocky) Marcoux of Milwaukee, WI,  Joseph Foley and Timothy Foley, both of Bloomington; thirteen grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Joseph, Kevin, Elena, Sarah, Shannon, Colleen, Hannah, Lillie, Will, Kristina and Patrick; two great grandchildren, Maxis and Bria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Earl Osterland and a sister, Carole Latelle.

Corrine was an avid Central Catholic and Notre Dame supporter and the #1 fan at her grandchildren’s sporting events.  She enjoyed playing bridge with the ladies and spending time with her family.

Affectionately known as “Nana” by everyone, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother who will be dearly missed.

NORMAL – Mary Schumacher, 94 of Normal, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Her graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington with Rev. Kathy King-Nobles officiating.  Visitation will be from Noon-2:00 p.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Central Illinois as she loved dogs.

Mary was born July 11, 1924 in Normal to Pearl A. and Margaret C. McGraw Peddicord.  She married Chuck Schumacher on May 27, 1944 in Shreveport, LA.  He preceded her in death.

Surviving are her step-daughter, Denise (Rich) Vander Wall of New Lenox; two granddaughters, Megan and Nicole; a niece, Joyce Pierce of Omaha, NE; cousins, Liz Locke of Normal and Bridget Whitworth.

Mary graduated from Normal Community High School in 1942.  In 1959 Mary and Chuck moved to LaGrange, IL and remained there for 25 years.  During those years Mary worked at the First National Bank of LaGrange for 20 years. Upon returning to Normal she worked at Rolands in Bloomington and Melange in Normal.

For many years Mary did volunteer work at the McLean County Historical Society, McLean County Humane Society and the Community Cancer Center.  She followed in the footsteps of her hubby Chuck who did much volunteer work at nursing homes and upon his death in 2006 she continued on for him, going to all of the nursing homes in town.

Mary loved eating out with her friends and doing puzzle books.  She was an avid reader and never missed a Chicago Bulls basketball game.

Her last years at Evergreen were happy years with new friends, but she never forgot the old ones.

James Phillips

BLOOMINGTON – James W. Phillips, 95 of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Jim’s service will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Pastor Chad Sparks officiating. Following the service military honors will be conducted by the Bloomington/Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Burial will be held at the Mason City Cemetery, Mason City, IL at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family has suggested memorials be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born May 12, 1924 in Center, Kentucky. He is the son of Vernon E. and Susie P. Judd Phillips. He married Henrietta I. Etherton on May 8, 1949 in Mason City, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta (“Hank”); their children, Carol (Don) Munson, Bloomington; Randy Phillips, Normal; and Andrea (Ken) Kodis, Hometown, IL along with 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and assorted “grandpets.” Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Truman and Garvice, and his canine kid, Joey.

Jim personified “The Greatest Generation.” At 18, with his parents permission, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was wounded twice in combat while serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The Marines and war experience shaped and defined Jim’s life. He returned home, married Henrietta, started a family and began a 30-year career at Caterpillar.

Jim truly never met a stranger. He was funny, kind and unfailingly gracious and considerate. He loved and indulged his family, especially our dogs. Jim taught us all loyalty to family, friends, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

BLOOMINGTON – Elaine I. Johnson, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 6:16 a.m., Sunday, June 16, 2019 at her home.  She and her husband are together again.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 20 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with Rev. Peter Weeks officiating.  Burial will be in Hudson Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Elaine was born March 11, 1935 in Williamsburg, IA, the daughter of Milton and Edna Latscha Schmidt.  She married Emery E. Johnson on July 25, 1953 in Williamsburg, IA.  He preceded her in death on April 11, 2015.

She is survived by a daughter, Geri Koch of Bloomington, a son, Dennis (Susan) Johnson of Brookfield, WI; three grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a brother, Leo (Eva) Schmidt of Williamsburg, IA.

Elaine was a strong, generous, independent person who always thought of others before herself.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

FAIRBURY- Anna Eileen Paternoster Sohn, 99, Fairbury, died at 8:29 pm Friday, June 21, 2019 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Her funeral will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury with Pastor Dan Robertson officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.  Visitation will be 1:00 to 1:45 pm Thursday also at the church.  The family suggests memorials be given to the Ron Debatin Memorial Scholarship c/o the University of Illinois or Dominy Memorial Library, Fairbury.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Eileen was born December 20, 1919 in Anchor, IL the daughter of Paul and Pearl Smith Grosse.  She married Walter “Bud” Paternoster on September 7, 1940 in Nashua, IA.  He preceded her in death on October 10, 1983.  She then married Paul O. Sohn on September 8, 1999 in Venice, FL.  He preceded her in death on September 30, 2016.

Survivors include one son, James (Michele) Paternoster, Fairbury, one daughter, Rebecca Debatin, Highland, IL, five grandchildren, Julie (Chris) LaFrance, Jackie Debatin, Kristi (Rob) Sutter, Brian (Cathy Kronk) Debatin, Jeff (Nathan Correll) Paternoster, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Iola Carter, Colfax, IL.

She is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ron Debatin.

Eileen was a graduate of Anchor Twp. High School.  With her husband, Bud, she co-owned and operated Paternoster Ford, Fairbury keeping the books for over 20 years.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairbury.

HUDSON – Hunter Thomas Smith, 22, of Normal, passed away at 5:12 a.m., Sunday, July 7 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by his family.

His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11 at the Hudson Baptist Church, 312 Walnut St., Hudson, IL with Rev. Anet Satvedi officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Donations can be made to the Fragile X Foundation and MarcFirst to support future research for individuals like Hunter and to honor is memory.

Hunter was born March 19, 1997 to Cindy Wegner and Jeff Smith.

He is survived by his mother Cindy (Andy) Wegner; his father, Jeff Smith; a brother, Tristan Smith; two sisters, Brittany Sorensen and Natalie Wegner; maternal grandfather and grandmother, Thomas and Joan Muelleman; and paternal grandfather, Louis McCain.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Beverly McCain

Hunter was born with Fragile X Syndrome, which unbeknownst to Hunter’s family at the time, would change everyone’s lives for the better, and lead to years of laughter and adventure. Hunter brought joy everywhere he went and could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He loved going to his grandma’s house and playing his Nintendo. He loved spending time with his parents and siblings, and going for rides in the car. Everywhere he went, he could never forget his Pooh Bear, who was always buckled up next to him in the car on any trip, whether it be 5 miles or 50. Hunter loved to be the center of attention, and loved to make everyone laugh if he knew they were watching.

Fairbury – Harold Lloyd Hish, 89, of Harbor Springs, MI formerly of Fairbury; passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be 10 AM, Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury; with Pastor Ann Champion officiating. Interment will follow the service in Avoca Twp. Cemetery, rural Fairbury.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, July 12, 2019 at Duffy Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers those who wish to remember Harold in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the local Animal Shelter of your choice.

Mr. Hish was born on June 14, 1930, in Wilmington, Illinois, the son of Luther Embry and Hatta Pauline (Buchner) Hish.  Harold graduated from Fairbury Township High School, Class of 1948. After graduation he married his High School sweetheart, Jeanne Ethleen Poshard on December 04, 1948, at the Cropsey United Methodist Church before moving to Nebraska. Jeanne was the daughter of Russell and Dorothy (Spence) Poshard. The couple celebrated 46 years of marriage prior to Jeanne’s passing on May 11, 1994.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Jeanne, he was predeceased by two brothers, Luther Elvin and wife Blanche (Stybr) Hish, Wayne Eugene and wife Helen (Steidinger) Hish.

He is survived by brother Donald Ray and wife Velda (Kupferschmidt) Hish of Bloomington, IL; three daughters, Penny Hish of Elizabeth, CO; Lora Hish of Denver, CO; and Velda (John Eric) Kammermann of Charlevoix, MI; four grandchildren, Noel (Survi Parvatiyar) Kammermann of Sacramento, CA; Erika Kammermann (Patrick) Kilkenny of Charlevoix, MI; Jakoby Loughridge of Oklahoma City, OK; and Nika Loughridge of Castle Rock, CO; four great-grandchildren, Asha and Nila Kammermann of Sacramento, CA; Pearl and Violet Kilkenny of Charlevoix, MI; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

For many years Harold operated Harold’s Drive-In, Fairbury, Illinois before his entrepreneurial spirit carried the family once again west to Vinton, Iowa where he owned the Hish Sales Agency, a Montgomery Ward store, then on to Montrose, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada, Versailles, Missouri and finally moving to be closer to family in Charlevoix, Michigan.

Remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather. Always full of wit and a friend to everyone he met. Harold was an avid outdoorsman in both field and steam. Always at home in nature. He was also a loyal member of Lions Club International, the National Rifle Association, and Ducks Unlimited.

PONTIAC – Ellen J Burns, 79, passed away August 19, 2019 at The Manor at Elfindale. She was born in Pontiac, Illinois on August 25, 1939.

She is preceded in death by her parents Josephine & Francis Sullivan and husband Joseph H Burns.

She is survived by sisters, Jane Monterastelli (John) of Bloomington, IL, Kathleen Tedrick of Clinton, IL and Patricia Wockley of Pittsburgh, PA; children Marilyn Martin Melchiorre (Ron) of Boise, ID, and Michael Martin of Blue Springs, MO. Sister in law Fannie Replogle (Steve) of Jonesboro, AR. Grandchildren; Marilyn’s children Madison Smith Huang (Peter) of Arlington, TX and Tanner Smith of Boise, ID. Michael’s children, Hannah Martin, Grant Martin & Isaac Martin of Kansas City, MO. And many cousins and nieces and nephews.

Ellen retired from the Missouri Department of Revenue where she had worked for 26 years, retiring as the Branch Manager for the downtown Springfield office.

In retirement Ellen enjoyed playing golf, many social groups, and weekly Mahjong, Hand and Foot, or Bridge games. Ellen traveled the world, enjoying trips to Canada, Europe, Iceland, Ireland, England, Egypt, and China. She also traveled extensively in the US to national parks and historic sites. She visited 49 of the 50 US states.  The most recent adventure in November 2018 had her dancing in a parade in New Orleans and throwing out beads. A highlight of all her travels was enjoying the local food and drinks.

She was always interested in, and active in politics. She also had many volunteer passions that included volunteering at Juanita K Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, Salvation Army, Greater Ozarks Audubon Society and Friends of the Library annual book sale.

Ellen was loved by her friends and family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate care givers at The Manor at Elfindale and Phoenix Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held in Springfield, MO from 4-6pm on Thursday, August 22 at Herman H Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut Street, Springfield MO. A visitation will also be held in Chenoa, IL from 1-2:30pm on Saturday, August 24, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, 302 Lincoln St, Chenoa, IL. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Chenoa.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of local arrangements.

BLOOMINGTON – James W. “Jim” Dee, 90, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:25 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Heritage Health in Bloomington.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 26 at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna, Bloomington with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Monday at the church.  Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna or St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Jim was born April 22, 1929 in Bloomington, the son of James G. and Pearl M. Hines Dee, Sr.

Survivors include his sister, Rosemary King of Normal; two nieces, Mary (Morrie) Sweeney and Ann (Gene) Harvey, both of Bloomington; four nephews, Bob (Vicki) King of Towanda, Dave (Julie) King of Bloomington, John (Domine) King of Normal and Steve (Laurel) King, Scottsdale, AZ; 17 great nieces and great nephews and several great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Allan C. King.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.  He graduated from Trinity High School, Bloomington in 1947 and attended Purdue University.  He farmed east of Bloomington his entire life, retiring in 2004 at the age of 75.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 574, Bloomington and the McLean County Farm Bureau.  He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Merna having served on the finance committee.

Donna was born December 29, 1938 in Streator, IL a daughter of Minor and Gladys Wolbrant Duvall. She married Robert L. Faust on June 28, 1975 in Pontiac. He passed away May 12th of this year.
She is survived by her children: Theresa (Luis) Diaz of Pontiac, IL and William (Pam) Raber of Joliet, IL; her grandchildren: Jessica (Kevin) Vernia, Josh Gernentz, JD Gernentz (Fiancé Maryssa McCoy), Bobby Raber, Jacque Arduini and Jason Arduini; her great grandchildren: Caitlynn Vernia, David Gualandi, Jeffery Hamilton, Ryan and Brandon Langston and Ezrae Gernentz; and two brothers: Robert (Dorothy) Duvall of Streator, IL and Jerry (Carol) Duvall of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Judy Duvall and JoAnn Duvall Grimsley; and two daughters: Cheryl Gaydos and June Arduini.
She was educated in the Streator schools. Donna was a lifetime member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed making quilts for family.
Donna was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed.

FAIRBURY – Elias E. Aupperle, 92, Fairbury, died at 3:55 am Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Heritage Health, Normal.

His funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with Pastor Ann Champion officiating.  Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.  Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30 to 10:15 am Wednesday at the church.  The family suggests memorials be given to OSF Hospice or the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury.

Eli was born January 31, 1927 in Fairbury, IL the son of Ernest and Lena Gnehm Aupperle.  He married Greta Ann Ellis on January 16, 1955 in Long Point, IL.  She preceded him in death on May 31, 2014.

Survivors include four sons, Dennis R. (Cindy) Aupperle, Princeville, Ronald E. (Vicki) Aupperle, Pontiac, Robert A. (Kristi) Aupperle, Towanda, Mark D. (Kristi) Aupperle, LeRoy, two daughters, Beth A. (Paul) Froidcoeur, Minooka, Linda S. (Pete) Bergstrom, Monticello, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two brothers, Elmer (Beata) Aupperle, Champaign, Eldon R. (Virginia) Aupperle, Toulon and one sister-in-law, Joanne Aupperle, Normal.

He is preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Eli served in the US Army’s 2nd infantry 23rd regiment M company during the Korean War and was involved in the battle at Heartbreak Ridge.  He was a Fairbury High School graduate and a lifetime farmer in the Fairbury area.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury VFW, Country Couples, 4-H leader and a longtime Dairyland Seed dealer.
