Velda J. Eckel, 88, of Streator, formerly of Pontiac, passed away at 7:02 a.m. Oct. 18, 2016 at her residence in Streator.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at South Side Cemetery in Pontiac. Calvert & Martin Funeral home in Pontiac is handling the arrangements.
Velda was born on Feb. 11, 1928 in Minonk a daughter of Fred and Elsie (Mosback) May, she married Andy Eckel II on March 9, 1969, He preceded her in death on March 8, 1985.
Surviving is one sister: Joyce (Ron) Christmann of Streator; two step-sons: Andy (Shirley) Eckel III of Pontiac and David (Beth) Eckel of Tallahassee, Fla.. She was preceded in death by her parents.

William R. “Bill” York, 62, of Bloomington, passed away Oct. 14 at 10:40 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Family and Friends were present.
Bill was born on May 4, 1954 in Chicago, the middle son of William W. and Stella (Bruchas) York. He married Shelly Ernst on Oct. 14, 1978 in Normal.
Bill is survived by his wife Shelly, their children William “Billy” York (Elizabeth Clements) of Normal and Stacy (John) Schmidgall of Bloomington, and his brothers Dr. Joseph (Mary) York of Lancaster, Penn. and David (Mary) York of Des Plaines. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was a graduate of St. Charles High School in St. Charles, and the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn earning a Bachelors degree in Police Science. He worked as the lead Transportation Technician for NICOR Gas for
38 years, retiring in 2009. After retirement he worked part time at Mapp Automotive, Bloomington.
Bill loved his animals and being outdoors. He held many NRA certificates, including being an NRA shooting sports instructor. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a proud American. Bill served with the W.D. Boyce Council as Assistant Scout Master and Merit Badge Counselor until 1997, when his son Billy completed the highest rank in scouting, Eagle Scout. Bill and his wife are members of West Twin Grove Christian Church, Bloomington.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. and will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service starting at 6 p.m. with Chaplain Tim Mitchell officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the family in care of Shelly York or a donation can be made to Free Living with Diabetes of Bloomington in Bill’s name.
Bill was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all. He helped many people in need and never expected anything in return. His generosity and help came from his heart – he did it simply because it was the right thing to do. Bill’s giving spirit helped many. He will be deeply missed by each and every one of us.
